Just 11 kilometers from the Plaza de Armas, the historic district of San Jerónimo celebrates its patron saint every late September: 5 days of processions, 26+ dance troupes, a food fair, and a 16th-century church built on an Inca huaca. In 2016, it was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation. Most tourists don't know it exists; many young locals don't either. This year it starts on Monday, September 28, with the main day on Wednesday 30.

New Developments to Allow Travelers to Explore Lima by Foot & Cable Car

The Ministry of Culture has approved a plan for a cable car project this September to unite Parque de la Muralla in the city's historical center with San Cristobal Hill. The cable car system is expected to be a boon to the area, moving up to 700 people at one time, at a fare of S/3.50 (soles). In both areas, footpaths have been replacing roads, and the cable car project will build on this.

Nazca Suffers 50% Tourism Decrease Due to New Travel Options in Pisco

Last week, Peru's National Tourism Chamber (CANATUR) announced that a strong decrease of tourism in the city of Nazca generated a loss of US$100 million in the zone. According to president Carlos Canales, the main cause is a 50% decrease in tourism due to competition from the new Pisco airport, which cuts up to 28 hours of bus travel off of travelers' itineraries, eliminating the need to stay in Nazca to fly over the Nazca Lines- to the detriment of the city's other attractions.

Uncovering the 2000 Year Old Underwater Ruins of Lake Titicaca

Sophisticated techniques of subaquatic archeology will be put to use for the first time in Lake Titicaca by the Bolivian Ministry of Culture and the Free University of Brussels joint project, Huiñamarca. The first immersions permitted the multinational team to locate and identify six submerged archeological sites and this June they'll begin excavating in hopes of uncovering trhe secrets hidden in remains from the pre-Columbian formative era, Tiahuanaco Kingdom, and Inca Empire.
