With the help of travel experts and tourists, CNN published a list ranking the top rivers based on a variety of different criteria: scenic beauty, nature and wildlife, culture, adventure, and activities. With 24 out of 25 possible points, the Amazon River was awarded the #1 ranking.

Lima's restaurants made a strong showing when UK-based William Reed Business Media published its list of the top restaurants in Latin America, with seven restaurants in the top 20. Lima's landmark Astrid & Gaston restaurant even took the first spot on the prestigious list.

New findings at the Paredones archeological site just outside of the city of Nazca suggests that the site not only housed important Incan authority figures, but also featured stone structures which must have been made by stoneworkers from the imperial capital, Cusco. These findings include a tomb with tell-tale offerings and Incan walls of carved, polished stone, the likes of which have not been seen along the coast before.

Cusco always celebrates World Tourism Day with a month's worth of activities. Although must of the schedule details are still vague, some information has been released regarding the bigger events this year: the outdoor concert in the Plaza de Armas, the Warachicuy Festival, Rafting Festival, the Great Excursion Week's free tours, and the welcoming of tourists at the Cusco airport by the Inca, costumed dancers, and local officials bearing gifts.

One of the biggest culinary festivals in the world, Mistura in Lima, Peru, is right around the corner and hopes to attract a million visitors this year. Farmers, cooks, bakers, restaurants, reknowned chefs, and culinary institutes from around Peru will all be taking part in order to show visitors all the produce, products, and traditional and modern dishes that Peru's desert coast, Andean mountains and highlands, and Amazon jungle have to offer!
