Thousands of visitors will flock to Arequipa this week to join locals on the main day of celebrations for its 473rd Founding Anniversary this Thursday, August 15th and enjoy the music, dance, and food for which the White City is known. The 8 hour Friendship Parade (Corso de la Amistad) will take place on this day, featuring dances, musicians, and floats highlighting Arequipeñan culture.
Starting in 2014, traveler's visiting the city of Lima will be able to tour the Peruvian capital in a brand new way. Beginning in January of next year, South America's first amphibious bus will begin offering tours from Lima's historic city center to San Lorenzo Island off of Callao.
Officials have allocated 15% of the funds raised by Machu Picchu's entrance fees for a new museum and cultural park to be constructed near Sacsayhuaman Fortress. The museum will house relics found in Machu Picchu, colonial paintings, and other artifacts and is hoped to rival some of the world's best. A contest will be held for its design. "We're going to create a museum that's parallel with the Louvre in Paris or the Armitage in Russia," Cusco's governor enthused.

Industry insiders think domestic flight prices may drop as low as US$30 by 2015! Currently, a 1hr 15min flight from Lima to Cusco can cost foreignors upwards of US$500, so this would be a much-needed respite and a boon to the Peruvian travel industry.
The Ministry of Culture has approved a plan for a cable car project this September to unite Parque de la Muralla in the city's historical center with San Cristobal Hill. The cable car system is expected to be a boon to the area, moving up to 700 people at one time, at a fare of S/3.50 (soles). In both areas, footpaths have been replacing roads, and the cable car project will build on this.
As part of a multi-year push to modernize travel in Bolivia, the country plans to complete construction for 4 new airports by next year. Until now, travelers have reached Copacabana by bus from Puno, Peru or La Paz, but now the town will be more accessible, as well as Sucre and neighboring Potosí.
