Climbing Misti Volcano

You'll be picked up at your hotel in Arequipa in the morning at the designated time and we'll approach Misti in 4x4 until we arrive at our starting point at the volcano's base (3,300m).

During the climb we'll pass through varied altitudinal zones, watching as the plant life changes along with the height.

We'll set up our camp at 4,700m.  From here you'll have an unforgettable and stunning night view of the city of Arequipa under a panorama of stars.  We'll have a hot dinner as we listen to the history and local legends of the Misti and Chachani Volcanoes.

We'll arise very early on this day and have a satisfying breakfast before beginning our ascent.  Then it's time to tackle the volcano's summit.  It's a 6 hour hike through increasingly clear views of the surrounding landscape.  Once we reach the peak you'll have unbeatable views of the imposing scenery provided by the Chachani and Picchu Picchu volcanoes, Aguada Blanca Dam, Salinas Lake, and the White City of Arequipa under the perfectly conic-shaped shade provided by Misti.  On a clear summer's day you'll even see the Pacific Ocean in the distance.  What will really leave you stunned, however, is the volcano's perfectly shaped crater.

After the hike up you'll be pleased to learn that the slide down the volcano is quite easy.  Sand and ash will aid in braking when you need to.  Once we reach base camp we'll pack up and then continue the descent until we reach our pick-up point, from where we'll return to Arequipa in 4x4, arriving at about 4pm
