Cross the waters of Lake Titicaca to visit the island to which the Inca traced their mythical origins- sacred Sun Island, where we‘ll visit the ruins of Chinkana and Pilcocaina, descending Inca steps to the fountain of youth and enjoying our pristine surroundings.
We'll pick you up at your La Paz hotel or hostel around 7:30-8:00am and then depart by tourist-class bus for Copacabana. Over the 3½ hour trip we'll be treated to wonderful views of the Andean Range known as the Cordillera Real- the Royal Range. At around noon we'll arrive at Copacabana and head first to the hotel so that you can accommodate your things. From there, we'll go for a delicious lunch characteristic of the area.
After lunch, around 1:30pm we'll set off in a shared motorboat for Sun Island. For the next hour and a half we'll cruise over the flat waters of the large and diverse Lake Titicaca.
Upon arriving at Sun Island, there'll be a 20 minute trek to the ruins of Pilcocaina Archeological Center, a mysterious site dedicated to the worship of Inti, the Sun God and supreme deity. Our guide will teach us about the island and the ruins.
From there, we'll descend the stone steps of Yumani Stairway to the Fountain of Youth, following the same path the Inca took.
In the evening we'll have our dinner and spend the night on the island.
In the morning we'll have breakfast and then we'll begin trekking an original Inca trail that will take us from the southern Sun Island to the northern side. It will take us half the day to arrive at Chinkana Archeological Complex, where the guide will show us such sites as the Sacred Rock and the Labyrinth.
After the tour we'll return by boat to the southern side of Sun Island, and around 4:30pm we'll head back across Lake Titicaca to Copacabana. Upon our arrival around 6:00 in the evening, we'll have dinner together and then have the evening free.
