Walk along jungle paths in search of monkeys, deer, peccaries, capybara, and birds, with a night hike to appreciate the jungle's nocturnal life. In the tropical marshlands known as the Pampas, we'll have a river tour to observe caiman, alligators, monkeys, capybaras, turtles, and bright birds, fish for piranhas or swim with pink river dolphins, and head off on foot in search for anaconda and squirrel monkeys.
We'll meet in Rurrenabaque at 9:00am and then head to the harbor to board out boat. Over the next 3½ hours we'll head up the Beni River, a scenic trip during which you'll be able to observe the lush flora of the tropical rainforest and the wildlife which gathers at the riverside- so don't forget to bring binoculars if you have them! Our destination is El Tacural Lodge, where we'll accommodate ourselves before enjoying a delicious lunch together. We'll rest a bit, perhaps relaxing in the hammocks, during the midday heat and then set off along some jungle paths while the guide teaches us about the plants and animals which call this environment home. He'll explain the local traditional medicinal uses for local plants as well. Keep your eyes peeled for the diverse tropical birds as well as peccaries, capybaras, monkeys, and deer. After dinner back at the lodge there will be a night walk to witness the nocturnal wildlife and listen to the many sounds of the jungle.
After a tasty breakfast we'll set off for Caquiawara, where you'll watch as a clay lick where parrots and macaws come en masse to feed comes alive with sights, sounds and colors. After enjoying the spectacle we'll head back for lunch. In the afternoon you can try fishing or if not enjoy some swimming.
After breakfast we'll return to the town of Rurrenabaque, from where we'll continue to the Pampas, or Wetlands, area by 4x4 jeep. We'll travel in this way throughout the morning en route to our eco-lodge on the Yacuma riverside, Caracoles Lodge. After accommodating ourselves in the lodge, we'll have our lunch before embarking along the river by motor-canoe. The wetlands area boasts an astounding abundance of wildlife which gathers by the riverside. You can expect to see a great variety of birds and monkeys, caimans and alligators, turtles, capybaras, and other animals.
The day starts off with an after-breakfast walk through the wetlands in search of anaconda. After lunch and a rest back at the lodge we'll swim with the famed pink river dolphins or fish for the infamously voracious piranhas, depending upon group preference. In the evening we'll head out in search of the marshland's nightlife.
After breakfast we'll set off by boat, observing the wildlife en route, to visit an area where squirrel monkeys gather. After our final lunch back at the lodge we'll bid farewell to the staff and return to Rurrenabaque at around 5:00-6:00pm.
