Detailed Itinerary: Day by Day

DAY 1: Historic Iquitos, Mighty Amazon & Artisanal Sugarcane Tour

Iquitos Heritage Tour & Rubber Boom Era: We will begin our Amazon crossing by picking you up from the airport or your hotel in Iquitos for a walking tour of the city’s main highlights. Discover the historic Plaza de Armas, the main church, the famous Iron House, and several majestic mansions left behind by the wealthy Rubber Barons.

Navigating the Mighty Amazon River: After the city tour, we will board our motorized boat and navigate for about 15 minutes along the Itaya River until reaching the world's largest river by volume: the mighty Amazon. We will follow its course toward the Cumaceba Curaka Inn, keeping our eyes peeled along the way to spot beautiful gray and pink dolphins.

Welcome to Cumaceba & Biodiversity Excursion: Upon arrival at the lodge, you will be welcomed with a traditional exotic drink made from seasonal fruits. After settling into your private room and resting, we will head out on a guided excursion to explore the rich biodiversity of flora and fauna unique to the Peruvian Amazon, enjoying a typical local lunch and free time to take photos and observe wild birds.

Artisanal Sugarcane Processing Experience: During this afternoon excursion, we will visit a traditional sugarcane processing site. Here, you can actively participate in the artisanal process and taste sweet, delicious beverages made from freshly extracted sugarcane juice.

Jungle Night Walk & Amphibian Spotting: We will return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious dinner. To end our first day, we will head out on an exciting night walk under the moonlight to observe unique insects, amphibians, and nocturnal birds while listening to the mysterious symphony of the rainforest.

This morning window is the prime time to spot iconic species like parrots, toucans, and especially the legendary Hoatzin (Shansho)—celebrated worldwide as the only ruminant bird on Earth.

Local Wildlife Rescue Visit: We will return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast and then visit a local riverside family who responsibly cares for various rescued Amazonian species. Here, you will have the chance to see and learn about boas, majestic anacondas, sloths, and jungle turtles.

Traditional Amazonian Lunch & Bora Native Community: After savoring a typical local lunch, we will board our boat to begin our return journey toward Iquitos. Along the way, we will make a meaningful stop at the Bora native community, a tribe that proudly keeps their ancient customs, language, and traditions intact.
