Detailed Itinerary: Day by Day
DAY 1:
Historic Iquitos, River Navigation & Welcome to Cumaceba
Iquitos Heritage & Rubber Boom Walking Tour: We will begin our Amazon journey by picking you up from the airport or your hotel in Iquitos for a guided walking tour of the city’s main highlights. Explore the historic Plaza de Armas, the main church, the famous Iron House, and several grand historic mansions dating back to the wealthy rubber boom era.
Sailing the Mighty Amazon River: After the city tour, we will board our motorized boat and navigate for about 15 minutes along the Itaya River until reaching the mighty Amazon River—the largest river in the world by volume. From there, we will continue our scenic journey until we arrive at the Cumaceba Curaka Inn. Along the way, with a bit of luck, we may spot beautiful gray and pink dolphins.
Lodge Welcome & Amazonian Biodiversity: Upon arrival at the lodge, you will be welcomed with a traditional, refreshing drink made from fresh seasonal fruits. You will then be assigned your private room to settle in and rest before a guided excursion to explore the rich biodiversity of flora and fauna typical of the Peruvian Amazon. We will enjoy a traditional local lunch and have free time to photograph and observe exotic birds.
Jungle Night Walk & Amphibian Spotting: We will return to the lodge to savor a delicious dinner before heading out on an exciting night walk. Under the cover of darkness, we will observe unique insects, amphibians, and nocturnal birds while listening to the mysterious symphony of the rainforest.

DAY 2:
Prehistoric Hoatzin, Wildlife Care & Amazonian Campfire
Early Morning Birdwatching & The Unique Hoatzin: We will begin the second day of our adventure very early, either on foot or by boat (depending on the season), to go birdwatching. Morning is the absolute best time to observe a wide variety of exotic species, including the legendary Hoatzin (Shansho)—celebrated worldwide as the only ruminant bird on Earth. Afterward, we return to the lodge for a fresh breakfast.
Jungle Wildlife Care Visit: Following breakfast, we will visit a local riverside family who responsibly care for various animal species such as boa constrictors, majestic anacondas, sloths, and Amazonian turtles, gaining unique insights into their protective habits.
Artisanal Extraction of Sugarcane Juice: During this excursion, we will also visit a traditional sugarcane processing site to learn about the artisanal extraction of sugarcane juice. You will have the opportunity to participate in the process and taste delicious, fresh beverages made directly from it.
Cultural Immersion at “Gallito” Riverside Village: In the afternoon, we will visit the scenic riverside village of “Gallito” to learn about their authentic way of life and share meaningful time with local families, discovering the unique rhythm of the rainforest lifestyle.

DAY 3:
Amazonian Fishing, Giant Water Lilies & Sacred Trees
Morning Artisanal Fishing & Giant Water Lilies: We will begin our third day in the Amazon with a delicious breakfast at the lodge. Our first activity will be exciting artisanal fishing along the banks of the Amazon River, where, with some luck, we may catch piranhas, catfish, and other native species. We will also have the unique opportunity to observe the Victoria Regia, the largest aquatic plant in the world—its giant leaves are famous for being able to support up to 4 kg (9 lbs) in weight.
Midday Lunch & Lodge Relaxation: We will return to the lodge for a satisfying regional lunch. Afterward, take advantage of some well-deserved relaxation time in the peaceful hammock area or take a refreshing dip by the lodge’s swimming pool.
Pre-Sunset Botanical Walk (The Sacred Lupuna): Before sunset, we will explore the surrounding area on a guided botanical walk, observing grand rainforest trees such as cedar, the historic rubber tree, and the impressive Lupuna—the giant, sacred tree of the Amazon.
